The rattan sunburst mirror that wakes up a wall

Reference tutorialAteliers Motifs ValablesSee the tutorial →The sunburst mirror is back, and in rattan it brings that warm boho feel we love. A small mirror, natural sticks, a glue gun, and a bare wall becomes a focal point. On each diagram below, the highlighted zone shows the current step.
What you need

- A small round mirror (~10-15 cm)
- Thin rattan or wicker sticks
- A sturdy cardboard ring base
- Hot glue gun + sticks
- Scissors / shears, twine
- A hanging fixing for the back
Step by step
Fix the mirror in the centre
Cut a sturdy cardboard ring base slightly larger than the mirror. Glue the mirror dead centre: it's the starting point the sticks will radiate from. Let the glue set.

Glue the first ring of rays
Cut sticks of equal length and glue them all around the mirror, evenly, in a star. Work in opposites (top, bottom, left, right) to keep the spacing even and the sun symmetrical.

Add a second ring
Glue a second set of shorter sticks between the first ones, to densify the sun and add depth. Vary the lengths slightly for a more natural, less rigid radiating effect.

Add the fixing and hang
Glue a strong fixing on the back (ring or strap), well centred so the mirror hangs straight. Let it all dry, then hang it. To finish, trim any sticks that stick out for a clean sun.

The detail that changes everything
The secret to a good sun is regularity: evenly spaced sticks in a star, worked in opposites. Two rings of different lengths give the depth that makes it look 'artisan-made'.
Where does it look best?
Above an entry console, a sofa or a fireplace. Rattan pairs with linen, wood and natural tones, the 2026 trend. For more warmth, mix light rattan and darker wicker.
