Style a small entryway (pretty AND functional)

By BairodJune 29, 2026

The entryway is the first and last image you get of your home. Often tiny, it still has to do everything: welcome, store, set the tone. Here's how to make it both practical and beautiful, even on a metre of width.

Think vertical

When floor space is short, go up the wall: hooks, a high shelf, a mirror, a sconce. A well-used entry wall frees the passage while offering storage. It's the basis of a successful small entryway.

Hooks, a basket and a mirror: it's all on the wall, the floor stays clear.

The winning trio: drop, hang, store

A surface to empty your pockets (small console, shelf), hooks for coats, and closed storage or a basket for shoes. With these three functions, the entry stops being a dumping ground.

A mirror, always

The mirror is the entry's essential decor piece: it allows the last glance, bounces light and visually enlarges an often-dark space. Round or arched to soften.

Mind the light

An entryway rarely gets daylight. A sconce or a small lamp on the console, warm light, is enough to make it welcoming the moment you step in.

A slim console and a large mirror are enough in a narrow hallway.

A rug to define the zone

A small rug or runner resists wear, protects the floor and draws the entry zone, even without a partition. Choose one easy to clean and in a warm tone.

A successful entryway comes down to four moves: go up the wall, drop/hang/store, a mirror, warm light. Start with two hooks and a mirror, and you'll feel the difference every day.
