Make the most of a small kitchen (with style)

By BairodJune 30, 2026

A small kitchen isn't a curse: well planned, it's often more practical than a big disorganised one. The idea: use every centimetre, especially vertically, without visual clutter.

Go up the wall

Floor and worktop are precious: free them by going up the wall. A backsplash rail with hooks (utensils, mugs, boards), shelves to the ceiling, a knife magnet. Anything hung is worktop reclaimed.

Use dead zones

The top of wall units (nice baskets for rarely-used items), the corner (lazy Susan), the back of the door (organiser), under the sink (adjustable shelf). That's tens of litres of forgotten storage.

Bet on mobile and foldable

A rolling trolley acts as extra worktop then tucks away; a fold-down shelf makes a dining spot when needed. In a small space, furniture that moves or folds is worth two fixed pieces.

Keep visual consistency

For a small kitchen to breathe, limit contrasts: light fronts, closed storage for the bulk of the mess, and only a few nice objects on show (wood, ceramic). Too many visible elements shrink the room.

Get the light right

An LED strip under the wall units lights the worktop and visually enlarges the room at night. Warm light, always. A well-lit small kitchen feels bigger and more welcoming.

Remember: in a small kitchen, store high and closed, keep surfaces clear, and only display the beautiful. Start by fitting a wall rail, you'll gain space right away.
